After the initial public interest following the grand opening in 2004, the Maglev has been operating at very low passenger level.
My trip this morning from the hotel to the airport took just about one hour, and cost 70 yuan. For one passenger, the cost of the Maglev is cheaper than the taxi, but the door to door time is about the same.
If there is two or more passengers traveling together, it probably does not make sense to use the Maglev. Taxi fare from the airport to most areas in Shanghai is a little over 100 yuan. Two passengers traveling on the Maglev will most likely end up spending more than the taxi, with the added hassle of transferring at the Longyang Road station, plus another transfer to the eventual destination.
